Funding caps hinder the supply of STEM skills

2026-01-12: Chalmers and KTH are able and willing to educate more engineers than we do today, but since we do not appear to be able to secure funding for additional students, we will unfortunately instead be forced to reduce their number. I wrote this together with my fellow President Anders Söderholm in an article in DN Debatt last week.

K Solar hydrogen can now be produced efficiently without the scarce metal platinum

A research team led by Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, have presented a new way to produce hydrogen gas without the scarce and expensive metal platinum. Using sunlight, water and tiny particles of electrically conductive plastic, the researchers show how the hydrogen can be produced efficiently, sustainably and at low cost.

SEE Stardust study resets how life’s atoms spread through space

Starlight and stardust are not enough to drive the powerful winds of giant stars, transporting the building blocks of life through our galaxy. That’s the conclusion of a new study from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, of red giant star R Doradus. The result overturns a long-held idea about how the atoms needed for life are spread.
“We thought we had a good idea of how the process worked. It turns out we were wrong. For us as scientists, that’s the most exciting result”, says Theo Khouri, astronomer at Chalmers and joint leader of the study.
